Sometimes God compels us to do something, and when the time comes to lay bare the fruits of His labour for what ever reason we totally miss ‘the boat’. This almost happened to me this week. I felt a strong urge two days before our meeting to re-write a speech that I had given at my daughters wedding; I would produce this when called upon to speak at our little chapel at Fiskerton.

Instead I decided to give my testimony, I felt we had a good gathering and I didn’t want to miss sharing this opportunity.
Towards the end of the service, recognition was given to an elderly couple who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and it became evident as speaker after speaker talked about relationships in marriage, that my ‘wedding speech’ was not coincidental at this time, and God now wanted me to finish what He had instructed me to do. I gave my speech, and marvelled at the way in which God had placed this task on me at this particular time.

Relationships are a difficult part of our human nature and as relationships develop it is inevitable that they suffer ‘consequences’. Those of us that are married know that it is sometimes hard to see eye to eye with our partners, and it is said; true love never runs smooth.

God so loved the world He gave His only son;
Before our Lord Jesus came, nobody in the world showed or shared love like Him -  the true reality of ‘Love’ came with Jesus. He set the standard by which all love is judged.

A man and woman marry to show their love for one another - and they marry in a church to sanctify this union in the eyes of God, marriage pleases God, because it is the best example of spiritual growth - to understand ‘spiritual growth’ we have to look into the Bible at Gods word: PROVERBS 18 V22
‘He who finds a wife finds what is good; and receives favour from the Lord’

Marriage is a divine institution. Invented by God, and God provided the rules to go with it. He established marriage as the second most important relationship in life. No other relationship with another human being carries such significance.

In John 13: Jesus gave us a new commandment; to love one another as He loved us.
In Ephesians 5. This command is repeated to the husband in regards to his wife; "Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing -.Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church,
This is a commandment from God not to be taken lightly, one of the reasons we marry is to reassure God that we understand this commandment and that we intend to obey it.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           I don’t know why I am compelled to speak on this today; it might be because I am once again starting to take my own wife for granted and that by repeating this message it will remind me, as much as I love her God loves us more than this, and although we have a forgiving God, our wives are only human, and not easily forgiving !
